About Kayleigh Hanmore

Kayleigh Hanmore

Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Children • Adolescents • Adults

My name is Kayleigh and I am a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I completed a Master’s degree in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy (Child and Adolescent) at the University of Essex. I also hold a BA (Hons) in Therapeutic Communications and Therapeutic Organisations and am a registered member of the BACP.

My passion lies in working with children and young people and supporting families to achieve positive, lasting outcomes. I have over 15 years’ experience working within primary schools, supporting children with special educational needs, emotional and behavioural difficulties, using a trauma-informed approach.

I began my counselling training to deepen my understanding of our internal worlds and emotional experiences, enabling me to better support the children and families I work with. This training has strengthened my ability to offer thoughtful, reflective, and compassionate therapeutic support.

How I Work

I offer 1:1 face-to-face and online psychotherapy sessions for young children, adolescents, and adults. My work is grounded in a psychodynamic counselling approach, which focuses on understanding how past experiences and unconscious processes can influence present thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

For children, I provide a safe, supportive, and containing environment where they can explore their inner world through play, storytelling, and conversation. By building a trusting therapeutic relationship, I support children in expressing difficult emotions, developing emotional understanding, and working through internal conflicts.

Psychodynamic counselling promotes long-term emotional growth and resilience. Where appropriate, I work collaboratively with parents or caregivers to support the therapeutic process within the child’s wider environment, while always maintaining client confidentiality.

Areas I Support

Children’s mental health difficulties are increasingly common, with rising levels of anxiety, depression, trauma-related difficulties, and emotional distress. These challenges can significantly impact wellbeing, sleep, relationships, and school attendance.

I offer therapeutic support for young people and adults experiencing:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Trauma and abuse
  • Emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Low self-esteem and confidence
  • Emotional regulation challenges

My aim is to provide a safe, calm, and nurturing space where clients can feel at ease to express themselves and feel emotionally held and understood.

Understanding psychodynamic psychotherapy

Psychodynamic therapy looks beneath the surface, exploring unconscious thoughts and past experiences to understand present feelings and relationship patterns. Learn how this reflective approach creates meaningful, lasting change.
